Los Angeles may not be Music City USA but we are blessed with a lot of opportunities to listen to music. There are several ways that you can go to concerts for free in Los Angeles. This is such a blessing since concerts are getting more and more expensive. Not only will we share tips on getting to see some of your favorite artists for free but we will also cover the free concerts in Los Angeles that are hosted by different cities, museums, and organizaitons.

30 Free Concerts in Los Angeles

Almost all of the free concerts in Los Angeles that we are sharing about are best enjoyed by coming prepared. Jazz at LACMA is one of the few concerts we share about that provides chairs. Be prepared with low-back chairs, blankets, and a picnic for the majority of the concerts. If you enjoy free events be sure to check out our guide to Outdoor Movies in LA which features several free movie screenings and we have another blog post dedicated to Free Things to do in Los Angeles.

Jazz at LACMA

free concerts in los angeles

Enjoy the lights and all that jazz. Free jazz at LACMA takes place every Friday night now through November. The concerts take place from 6 pm to 8 pm. I arrived around 4:30 and was able to get a front-row seat. While you can bring a blanket and sit further back on the grass you won’t get quite the same view as those who have a seat near the front. Having urban lights behind the musicians was so picturesque and made the experience even more special. Most seats were taken by 5 pm. You can save seats but they do ask that you don’t save more than three and that one person from your party remain in one of the seats at all times. No tickets are required to attend.

If you arrive after 6 pm the parking fee goes down to $10. It is $15-$25 depending on what time you arrive. Tickets for concerts are available 3 weeks in advance and fill up quickly.

Here are 3 different techniques on how to go to concerts for free in Los Angeles

We have some tips on how you can win free tickets to concerts with big artists.

1. Radio Station Contests

My first recommendation is to actively try to win tickets through radio stations. Last year I saw Ed Sheeran at Sofi Stadium for free by playing the Battle of the Sexes on 104.3 MYFM. Another friend of mine won tickets to see Brad Paisley by entering a contest on a local radio station’s website. When he went to pick up the concert tickets from the radio station they gave him tickets to another concert for the next day that no one had picked up.

You cannot win the tickets unless you have the courage to enter. I know that getting through the phone line can be tricky but there’s no reason you can’t enter the radio contests online. Go to the website for the radio stations in your area and click on contests. In December 2019, I won tickets to see Sheryl Crow at the iHeartRadio theatre in Burbank from Kost 103.5.

If you don’t want to call in to try and win concert tickets from radio stations you can visit their websites for concerts too. Here are some of our favorite LA radio stations with great giveaways:

104.3 MYFM
KOST 103.5
102.7 KIIS

2. Enter Facebook Contests

Once again you cannot enter unless you win. A few weeks ago I entered a Facebook contest to win tickets to see Shawn Mendes in concert. All that you had to do was tag a friend in the comment section. Well, my friend that I tagged won the tickets so he and I got to attend another concert for free. It took no extra time out of our day to type in one name. The concert was amazing! We had so much fun.

3. Attend a free mini-concert through Jimmy Kimmel Live!

jimmy kimmel live tickets

Jimmy Kimmel has several free mini-concerts throughout the summer and fall. Tickets are available through 1iota. Bands like Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons, and more have performed as part of the concert series. You can check for upcoming concerts here.
