Wayfarers Chapel Rancho Palos Verdes
Wayfarers Chapel is now closed due to unstable land. The current plan is to have the Chapel moved to another location though a new location has not been selected. Please do not attempt to visit the Chapel at this time as it is off-limits. We will update you once we have more information.
Wayfarers Chapel was built in 1951 by Lloyd Wright. With stunning views of the ocean and gorgeous redwood trees, this area feels like something out of a fairytale. I love that the trees make you feel like you’ve traveled up to Northern California.
This stunning glass church by the sea first caught my eye at Caleb and Julie’s wedding in the finale of season one of the tv show The OC. The church is shown for a second time during the second season at Caleb’s funeral. This church also stood out to me as a place that I had to visit. I did some research so that I could find the glass church from The OC. Wayfarers Chapel has also been seen on screen in Sliders, The Rockford Files, 90210, Revenge, and in the movie Endless Love.

The church is located near the ocean in Rancho Palos Verdes. The address for Wayfarers Chapel is 5755 Palos Verdes Drive South Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275. There is free parking available. There is a visitor center and of course the church itself. The overall area is rather small so a visit won’t take too much time but this is absolutely worth coming here.
I knew that the church would be pretty but it is even more beautiful in person. The way the sunlight hits the glass with the greenery around is just stunning. This structure incorporates nature in such a lovely way. There’s a wonderful view of the ocean from the church grounds as well. This is a place to come for a peaceful moment and beautiful scenery.
If there is a service or a wedding taking place then, of course, you would not be able to go inside the church. This is a popular spot for events so just come prepared that it might not be available for you to see. If you’re driving a good distance to get here be sure to call first to see if the church would be available for you to see.
I was meeting up with friends in Redondo Beach so I made a side trip to the church so I could finally see it. I’m so glad I took the time to see this beautiful place in person.
