The Federal Bar North Hollywood is a spot that I would drive past a lot when I was living in LA. Recently, I finally stepped inside and cannot wait to return. There is a second location in Long Beach that I look forward to checking out as well. Even if you haven’t visited The Federal yet, it’s possible you’ve seen it before. The Federal has been used as a filming location for productions such as Parks and Recreation.

The Federal wasn’t always a hot spot for dining. This building got its start as a bank opening in 1926. I love finding restaurants that have a unique look and feel and this spot certainly has that. The exterior makes the building stand out from the other places on Lankershim Blvd. If you love the architecture of other iconic places in LA like Union Station you’ll most likely love The Federal as it was built by the same people. Pro Tip, avoid paying to park in the lot in the back by looking for street parking.

The Federal Happy Hour happens daily from 3 pm-6 pm. Appetizers are $2 off, select beers are $4, well drinks and wine are available for $3. I ordered the dirty chips which were amazing! The chips are covered in bacon, blue cheese, red onion, green onion, pico de gallo, and cilantro creme.

Check-In On Yelp

I used to never think about checking Yelp to see if places offered any freebies for checking in. Now, I try and make a habit of always doing my research to make sure I am getting great deals! If you check in at The Federal on yelp you can get a free dessert. I chose the Elvis Sundae which was fabulous. It is a chocolate brownie with banana peanut butter ice cream.

You can find The Federal North Hollywood at 5303 Lankershim Blvd.

There is an upstairs area at The Federal used for dancing and live performances. From what my friends have told me the upstairs area gets pricey. But, I felt like the downstairs was decently priced and how could I complain about the free dessert?
