How to Go to an Extra Tv Show Taping
I would like to note that as of 2022 I am not certain that the tapings are still taking place. I am working on getting confirmation.
The Extra tv show taping takes place at the Universal CityWalk. Extra films near the entrance to Universal Studios Hollywood by the globe fountain. The show films Monday through Friday at various times. At every taping, you should see the hosts but unfortunately, celebrity guests do not appear every time. If you would like to link to the website to see the upcoming guests check towards the bottom of the post.

Do You Need a Ticket to Universal Studios to Attend The Taping
No. If you are planning to visit the theme park anyways then attending the taping of Extra is an added bonus. If your plan is only to come for the taping you do not need to purchase a park ticket. However, unless you take an uber or find an alternative place to park you will need to pay the $25 parking fee at CityWalk. An alternative is to take the metro to the CityWalk. A one-way ride on the metro is $1.25. Much better than paying that expensive parking fee. If you attend a taping of one of the shows that films on the lot like The Kelly Clarkson Show you’ll be given free parking.
Can You Meet Celebrities at the Extra Taping
Possibly. When I attended the taping of Extra I was trying to meet Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White. Unfortunately, Shaun did not meet any fans. My favorite item to bring is my instax mini polaroid camera so I can have the celebrity sign a picture of us should I get the chance to meet them.
What to Know Before You Go
Arrive early! For a 12 pm taping, which didn’t start until after 12:45 pm, I arrived at 11:40. I was able to stand directly behind the people lined up along the railing. However, when the taping started they pushed everyone back who had waited for a long time and let tourists who had just walked up in the front. I was very unimpressed with how security organized the taping. In order to try and get a front-row spot, I would recommend arriving at least 90 minutes early.
You will be in the sun with little shade so I would recommend bringing sunscreen, water, and a hat.
Is It Free To Attend a Taping Of Extra
Yes and no. It does not cost you anything to stand and watch the interviews. However, unless you have a Universal Studios Hollywood annual pass that includes parking you will have to pay to park. If you have to pay to park I would encourage you to only go to the taping if you’re a huge fan of the person being interviewed. You also need to ask yourself if seeing that celebrity and potentially not meeting them is okay with you. If you are willing to settle for seeing them it’s worth going. And if you get a chance to meet them that is a great bonus!
Interested in attending other TV show tapings. You can see a list of other TV show tapings you can attend in Los Angeles here.
